Kosciuszko National Park - Notification of Proposed Aerial Shooting - 13 November to 1 December 2023
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) would like to advise of a proposed aerial shooting program targeting deer and pigs in parts of Kosciuszko National Park. The area will be closed for a period of 4 days between Monday 13 November 7 am to Friday 1 December 7 pm 2023 (excluding weekends).
There will be a partial closure of Kosciuszko National Park covering walking tracks and surrounding areas within the shoot area. This will be highlighted through signage at the start of those walking tracks as well as promotion on the NPWS website and at Visitor Information Centres. A further notification two weeks prior will be sent to recipients of this e-mail.
The following will be closed for an aerial pest control operation for a period of 4 days between 7 am Monday 13 November to 7 pm Friday 1 December 2023 (excluding weekends):
- Rennix Walk
- Rainbow Lake Walk
- Porcupine Walk
- Waterfall Walk
- Illawong Walk
- Illawong to Charlotte Pass Walk
- Charlotte Pass to Porcupine Walk
- The Main Range - Dicky Cooper Bogong south along Rolling Grounds (down to ~1100m to West, ~1600m to N, E) to Wilkinson Valley
- Ramshead Range - Merrits Creek east to Sawpit Creek
- Part of Perisher Range including Mount Guthrie (Snowy River east to Mount Paralyser)
- The area east of Guthega Link Road, eastwards to Diggers Creek
- The area east from Diggers Creek (Guthega Road) and north of Kosciuszko Road eastwards towards Jindabyne Pumping Station
Shooting will be excluded from:
- within and around resort areas
- public road corridors
- Thredbo Valley Track, Summit Walk and Summit Trail, Main Range Walk and Kosciuszko Walking Track, Mount Stilwell Walk, Pallaibo Walk
NOTE: areas south of the Alpine Way, Main Range Walk, Summit Walk, Summit Trail and Kosciuszko Walk will remain open
