IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM KOSCIUSZKO NATIONAL PARK:
Dear PXC and Cross Country Community,
This email is a reminder notification of the aerial shooting program targeting deer and pigs in parts of Kosciuszko National Park between MONDAY 13TH FEBRUARY 7AM TO FRIDAY 24 FEBRUARY 7 PM 2023 (EXCLUDING WEEKENDS). Please note that this shoot forms part of a larger aerial shoot program that includes other areas of Kosciuszko National Park around this time period. Please always check our Alerts and Closure webpage: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/alerts/alerts-list for the most up to date information.
The attached map indicates the closed areas (the light pink shading with red outline).
The program should be completed over two days within the date period given above, pending weather and availability of resources.
Shooting will be excluded from:
- within and around resorts - roads and some walking tracks - Summit Walk/Trail, Main Range Walk and Kosciuszko walking track.
There will be a partial closure of Kosciuszko National Park covering walking tracks and surrounding areas within the shoot area. This will be highlighted through signage at the start of those walking tracks as well as promotion on the NPWS website and at Visitor Information Centres.
FROM 7AM, MONDAY 13TH FEBRUARY TO 7 PM, FRIDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2023 THE FOLLOWING WILL BE CLOSED FOR AN AERIAL PEST CONTROL OPERATION (EXCLUDING WEEKENDS):
- Rennix Walk - Rainbow Lake Walk - Porcupine Walk - Waterfall Walk - Illawong Walk - Mt Stilwell Walk - Guthega to Charlotte Pass Walk - The Main Range - Dicky Cooper Bogong south along Rolling Grounds (to ~1700m on N, E and W) to Mt Twynam - Ramshead Range - Merrits Creek east to Sawpit Creek - Part of Perisher Range including Mount Guthrie (Snowy River east to Mount Paralyser) - The area east of Guthega Link Road, eastwards to Diggers Creek - The area east from Diggers Creek (Guthega Road) and north of Kosciuszko Road eastwards towards Jindabyne Pumping Station NOTE: areas south of the Alpine Way, Main Range Walk, Summit Walk, Summit Trail and Kosciuszko Walk will remain open.
This operation is part of an ongoing multi-year plan to reduce impacts of deer and pigs on high conservation areas. These include the montane bogs and fens threatened ecological community. Other feral animals such as foxes, goats, and wild dogs will also be targeted during this program. Aerial shooting is not used to control horses in NSW national parks, and therefore horses will not be targeted as part of this program.
Please circulate this information to your staff and clients as required.
Many thanks,

Next Perisher XC Trails Work Party will be held on 4/5 March.
The February Perisher Trails Work Party was an interesting one. Snow was definitely part of the planning. However, there was enough to do inside for the day and Sunday dawned sunny and warm enough for a few march flies. The group headed for the trails with replacement marker poles and equipment and completed the core of the planned weekend work in record time.
If you are planning yo attend the March Work Party, bring your gumboots, clothing for any weather, hat, work gloves, etc. Keep march flies in mind – Bushmans repellent and light-coloured work clothes are recommended. Also, bring your snacks, drinks and lunch.
To help with planning, if you can attend on either or both days, please contact Peter Ward (nswxc1@gmail.com)
Accommodation will be provided at Canberra Alpine Club Lodge (thank you CAC!). Contact Peter Cunningham (peter.petercunningham@gmail.com) to reserve your bed. Bring bed linen, towels, food and drink for an evening meal to share on Saturday night.
If you are curious about what is under the snow that you are skiing on, and the efforts that are made every summer to make the trails the best they can be, join one of the regular work parties. Pencil in these further 2023 XC Work Party dates (NOTE - dates will be confirmed before each WP):
4. 1/2 April
5. 6/7 May
6. 3/4 June (if necessary)
