2024 PXC Work Party #4 - Saturday & Sunday April 6-7+ (corrected date) and Upcoming Events

November 2023, Work Party #1 - These dauntingly large piles of steel bridge material have nearly disappeared!

PERISHER XC TRAILS WORK PARTY – AGAIN! APRIL 6-7+

IT IS THAT TIME, AGAIN  – Work Party #4 on Saturday and Sunday April 6-7. The water mitigation bridge construction that was planned for 2024 summer is nearly complete. Check the PXC Cams (https://www.perisherxcountry.org) – you can see bridges that are completed. There will be trail work and Nordic Shelter maintenance. There are five bridge panels left to complete. Work on the bridges will continue, if necessary, on Monday and Tuesday after the work party weekend. 

                  This bridge was completed in November .

Meet at the Nordic Shelter at 9:00am for a 9:30 start. Bring clothing for all weather conditions (it is Perisher after all). If you have them, bring gum boots, work boots, work gloves, safety glasses, ear muffs, secateurs, fly repellent/fly veil (intermittent march flies and little black flies) and lunch/snacks/drinks.

If you plan to attend, please contact Peter Ward (nswxc1@gmail.com). Likewise, let him know if you can attend any of the extra days after the weekend to take part in the Bridge Project.

Accommodation is available in Perisher (thank you Canberra Alpine Club!). Contact Peter Cunningham (peter.petercunningham@gmail.com) if you require accommodation. Bring bed linen, towels and food/drink.

IMPORTANT CHANGE TO THE 2024 WORK PARTY SCHEDULE – May Work Party #5 has been moved from its traditional 1st weekend of the month to 18-19 May. 

This Work Party will carry out essential trail work to get ready for winter. The covered half-pipes that help with drainage under the snow on the trails will be installed, hopefully prior to the arrival of snow cover. This isn’t heavy work but a lot of hands make the job easy. It is actually enjoyable to be on the trails in anticipation of the good work that the drainage pipes do!

If the half-pipes and covers can all be installed it will not be necessary to have the June Work Party – you can wax your skis in preparation for winter instead!
